Nandan Nilekani, the billionaire co-founder of Infosys Ltd., has committed to donating $38.5 million to his alma mater, the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. This substantial contribution stands as one of the largest gifts made by an alumnus to an educational institution in India.
The generous grant brings Nilekani's cumulative donations to the university to 4 billion rupees ($49 million). The objective behind this philanthropic gesture is to bolster research efforts in emerging fields by fostering a thriving deep-tech startup ecosystem. Nilekani's office recently announced the news, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two parties.
