Kanye West's Account Restored by X Following Musk's Previous Year Ban
After facing a ban imposed by Elon Musk on Twitter last year, Kanye West's account has now been reinstated by the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has recently reinstated Kanye West's account (known legally as Ye), which had been banned last year due to a controversial post. The ban was a result of Ye sharing a picture that combined a Swastika with the Star of David, violating the platform's rules and sparking a tweetstorm with a series of antisemitic comments.
The ban occurred shortly after Elon Musk took over the platform in December, but the decision was clarified not to be related to a separate unflattering picture of Musk posted by the rapper-producer. However, Musk, who considers himself a "free-speech absolutist," has faced criticism for his handling of account restorations on Twitter.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Ye's reinstated account will not be eligible for monetization, and ads will not appear alongside his posts. X recently launched an ad revenue-sharing program with global creators, requiring eligible creators to have at least 500 followers and generate 15 million impressions over the past three months.
Ye's account was only restored after he gave assurance that he would refrain from posting any further antisemitic or hateful content. As of now, he has not made any new posts.
Musk's controversial decisions regarding account restorations have included figures like former U.S. President Donald Trump, far-right influencer Andrew Tate, and right-wing academic Jordan Peterson. Recently, Twitter faced criticism for restoring the account of Dominick McGee, who had posted an image of child sexual abuse.
