Tech Layoffs Transforming in Fascinating Manner
Microsoft and Crunchbase Announce Workforce Reductions with Focus on Sales and Support Roles
In another round of downsizing, Microsoft is making staff cuts, following its previous layoff of approximately 10,000 employees earlier this year. The technology giant is targeting its sales department for reduction, as it is a commonly affected area when companies face budget constraints. Additionally, recruiting, marketing, and client-facing positions are often impacted during cost-cutting initiatives in the tech industry.
Crunchbase recently experienced similar staff layoffs, providing a prime example of this trend. The business data platform released a spreadsheet detailing the specific areas where the startup decided to scale back its workforce, including various sales roles, customer success staff, marketing, and recruitment. Even Crunchbase News, the company's news division, was affected by the cutbacks. It's worth noting that I personally contributed to building the Crunchbase News team during my tenure at the company and remain a shareholder.
