New Van Revives San Jose Mobile Bakery, Restoring Operations
Community Support Helps San Jose Mobile Bakery Bounce Back After Van Theft and Vandalism
A mobile bakery in the South Bay is back in business within a short span of two weeks, following the unfortunate incident of their van being stolen and vandalized. Juan Soto and Ernesto Botello, undeterred by the setback, received immense support from the community, enabling them to acquire a new vehicle.
With their new white van, Soto and Botello resumed their operations, hitting the road from the Santa Clara County Jail, where they set up shop on Thursday. The duo expressed their elation at being back in action, with Botello stating, "I'm feeling fantastic, honestly. Like I feel really good to be back here. I missed home, even though I live in Los Baños."
Just two weeks ago, their original van was stolen in Los Baños and later found empty and severely damaged in a nearby creek. Soto recounted the loss, saying, "We had a whole load of bread to go to work the next day, and it was gone. They stole that too, and our equipment."
Remarkably, within the span of two weeks, the community rallied together and donated enough funds to help the pair acquire a new van. Now, Zeledon's Bakery on Wheels is back to selling their renowned Mexican pastries in San Jose, a tradition they have faithfully upheld for the past 20 years.
