Unpaid Rent Forces Twitter's Eviction from Boulder Office
Twitter Faces Eviction from Boulder Office due to Unpaid Rent
According to court documents, Twitter, now under the leadership of Elon Musk, has failed to pay three months' rent to its landlord in Boulder, resulting in a judge approving the eviction of the tech giant from its office. Reports indicate that Twitter's financial instability since the ownership transition has led to numerous unpaid bills. While some disruptions during a transition are not uncommon, the complete lack of rent payment for several months suggests deeper problems within Twitter's operations.
Lot 2 SBO LLC, the Chicago-based landlord of Twitter's office at 3401 Bluff St in Boulder, had been relying on a $968,000 letter of credit since February 2020 to cover the rent. However, this financial arrangement exhausted its funds in March, leading to the subsequent non-payment. The court order, issued on May 31, instructs the sheriff to assist in the eviction within the next 49 days, effectively removing Twitter from the premises by the end of July. The case is identified as 2023CV30342 in Boulder District Court.
Previously, the Boulder offices housed approximately 300 employees, but due to layoffs, terminations, and resignations, the current workforce is estimated to be less than half that number. Additional records indicate that a cleaning company has also filed a separate case against Twitter, seeking $93,504 in unpaid fees.
